TS Sports – Season 2021/22 – Part 1

TS Sports YT Thumb1

Welcome back you join us on the brink of starting season 2021/22 in Sky Bet League Two.

We left you with news that would start our summer of discontent. TS Sports Fc have now got new owners. Chairman David Lindsay and Director David Lambert have completed a club takeover from Bob Barsby and Dave Hackett. Which has put a slight dampener on the story I was trying to weave.

Dave Hackett

As soon as Dave and Bob were out of the door, I approached both for different roles. I offered Bob a part time scouting role. Something to keep him out from mischief. And with Dave I offered him the Director of Football role. And thankfully he accepted the role. Fingers crossed he can help maintain the club ethos of developing the young talent and when they get too big for their boots (club) sell them on for a great profit.

The Pirelli Stadium in Burton Upon Trent

Another change would be the home ground. Whilst the new TS stadium is still under construction and a due completion date of 22/06/2022. We have lived a nomadic life, and up until now we have been using Hednesford’s Keys Park. This season will see us move closer to Swadlincote and take up residency at the Pirelli Stadium in Burton Upon Trent.

The other changes would be of the playing squad. With several starlets who have been with the team from the start of the save gaining recognition from bigger clubs. I have had to make considered decisions over who I let leave and who I force to stay for a little longer.

Eddie Beans. Eddie had complained towards the end of last season that I had blocked his dream move to Cincinnati and demanded to be put on the transfer list. Seeing the anguish on the lad’s face and his confusion I duly followed through with that action. And isolated him away from the first team for that last few matches of last season. I had a feeling better teams would come in for him when their respective transfer windows were open. A host of Premier league team bit the bate and Eddie was soon moving to Everton for a cool £3.8m and 15% of the next transfer.

Henry Harness. ‘Arnie had been the subject of enquiry for the last 12 months but unlike Eddie ‘Arnie had accepted that I would only sell him if I thought the move would be the right one for him. Huddersfield came in with a massive offer totalling £6.75m and 30% of the profit from any future transfer. The move would see him team up with Johnny Starr who had an amazing season last season for Huddersfield and certainly contributed to their Championship winning campaign.

Tyler Denton then gets snapped up by Championship side and parent affiliate Walsall for a flat £200k. We accept as Tyler has 12 months on his contract and we have Cole Dasilva on trial.

The final out going of the summer was plucky midfielder Liam Walsh. Wigan began the bidding for Liam at a very low rate. We refused to budge from our valuation of £500k. Liam then came and had a chat and said that he would prefer to move club. I gave him my word that if a northern club came in for him and offered close to our valuation that I would pack his bags. Hull eventually offered £400k, £50k of add ons and 20% of his next transfer sale on deadline day. I accepted the offer and put Liam’s belongings in a black bag for him to make a swift departure.

The ins were a little more calculated around the departures. Firstly, we set Tyler Walker, Cole Dasilva and Adam Matthews on trial for three weeks of the preseason. I also noticed that Tottenham Midfielder Oliver Skipp was available on loan. Seeing his availability, we put in a loan offer for the season. Tottenham accepted and we should hopefully see Skipp primarily play as our main defensive midfielder.

As the trials progressed and the more I got to see of the three, I set about signing Dasilva and Walker. Matthews was released because the expected influx of transfer enquiries for Paul Newman did not materialise. Below is a sneaky peek at the squad for the season.

On the Pitch.

I packed our preseason with plenty of opportunity to get match fit. We played twelve friendlies in the Month of July.

We kicked everything off in Frome to play a low-key match to build up plenty of confidence in each member of the squad. Well after 13 minutes we found ourselves 1-0 down. Thanks to a wonder strike from Jake Perrott. After a bollocking from the side lines they boys eventually found their footing into the match. Walsh equalised on 34 minutes and a minute later Winger Karl Wright score our second. Jason Stamp scored a header just before halftime and youngster Jon Banks rounded the scoring off in the second half.

We then played West Ham at the Pirelli Stadium for our first match at our new home. West Ham striker Callum Wilson can claim the first goal at the Pirelli Stadium during our stay. He scored on 48 minutes, for Tyler Walker to claim an equaliser after the restart. We then forced Fabianski into an own goal on 52 minutes. And West Ham equalised through Yarmolenko on 87 minutes. Tyler Walker then scored the winner deep into extra time. A goal at the death showing that we have the team spirit to fight until the last whistle.

The rest of the matches would provide valuable match time for each player in our first team squad and give a few of the trialists the opportunity to prove their worth.

How do we plan to play?

I plan to stick with the two variations of the tactic that has so far worked for TS Sports. Switching between the two base formations and making slight alterations to team instructions has enabled us to rise up the leagues in the past three seasons. I generally switch between the two depending on the players available and the opposition in front of us. either play a balanced mentality, and sometimes push positive or attacking depending upon the strength of the opposition. Do note that some of the roles demonstrated in the pictures below do alter depending on the player playing in that position.

Thank you for your time. Next time we talk League Two and two other new competitions for TS Sports Fc.
